The true crime miniseries Deceit gets straight to the point. Four razor-sharp and captivating episodes tell the true story of the 1992 murder of 23-year-old Rachel Nickell. Ambitious undercover cop Sadie Byrne (Niamh Algar - The Virtues, Pure) is used as bait to gather evidence on suspect Colin Stagg. (an excellent Zion Daniel Young). What follows is an exciting search for evidence. And en passant a depressing picture is painted of the misogynistic environment of London's Metropolitan Police.

It is striking that the announcement beforehand that 'for legal reasons Sadie Byrne has been partly fictionalized' and that 'scenes and characters have been created for dramatization'. Of course, the creative freedom must be given room to adjust things. But what has been changed then? And how much? Is half made up?

That doesn't take away from the fact that Deceit is a fine miniseries. With excellent acting in all roles, a lovely pace, a good screenplay (Emilia di Girolamo - The Tunnel, Law and Order UK)) and surprising plot twists. You can hardly imagine this reality. Or is it?

Beautiful, if not the most beautiful film with an undercover role I've ever seen.

Strong performances in this true crime miniseries (actually a three-hour film) that once again emphasizes the wrong approach by the police apparatus. Not for the first time because of the urge for immediate results and the will to surprise and reassure the population and to put feathers on their hat.

It was also painful how Officer Sadie kept having to pull the chestnuts out of the fire, not really getting the recognition it deserved, the responsibility for the fumbling was shifted and almost completely destroyed. .

Fascinating work.

Good series based on true events. Too bad about the few scenes that were just a bit too much, but of course could have really happened: if Lizzie is close to a breakdown and even starts drinking, she should have chosen another job[ /spoiler]. Fine acting. This story could also have fit into a feature film with a normal running time.
