De Vorstinnen van Brugge is a chronicle of the small and large bourgeoisie and the working people in Bruges from 1894 to 1923. What connects them is a kind of historical and not always justified pride, which turns even the simplest working woman into a princess. The central figure of the series is Edghar Onghenae, a weaver from Ghent who loses his job and comes to Bruges.
