Fourth and sadly shortest season to date, with only two really strong episodes, opener USS Callister and the closing Black Museum. The four in between are okay but not very special. The rack seems to be a bit off. Not that the series suffers from a lack of inspiration, but the plot lines are getting a bit dull and flat. Too bad, because at times this is still a great series.

I've seen all 4 seasons, but the second season was the best. In season 4 it is striking that it is quite versatile in terms of genres. Episode 5 (Metalhead) has been overtaken by the reality it was inspired by, because this type of war robots already exist, although they are (maybe?) still experimental. When the lady climbed into the tree and the robot went into standby mode, I thought it was going to jump off the ground to jump up, because the real war robots can do that. 3* for the whole season, episodes 2 (Arkangel) and 5 (Metalhead) I liked the least and bring the average down.

Bandersnatch - 3.0*
The concept is more fun than the execution. A game designer in the 1980s (Fionn Whitehead) tries to translate an illustrious SF book about parallel universes into a computer game, but starts to doubt whether he is still in control of his life decisions. The joke is that we as Netflix consumers are always presented with choices about the path that the young man chooses. Where does his free will begin as an independent thinking human being and where does our divine presence activate the impulses that shape him? Or (very meta) are we kept on a leash and is there no escape from the pre-traveled path that keeps coming back to the same thing? Do we shape technology or does technology shape us? But 'Bandersnatch' (2018) never really gets under the skin, because with its game design it keeps returning to a restart and makes our choices irrelevant. In line with the underlying message, but at the same time the psychological development of the main character lacks any gravitas or tragedy. And in terms of style and atmosphere (apart from the wonderfully obscure 80s music), little is added to this moderately elaborated meta-premise.
