Bartje plot

Bartje Bartels is a boy who grows up in a poor Drenthe peasant family and who gradually becomes less and less willing to conform to his fate. Instead of following in his father's footsteps as a farm worker, Bartje wants to go out into the wide world. However, fate decrees otherwise, after Bartje has worked as a servant for several years, after the death of his father, he is given the care of the family.
