A Suitable Boy plot
The series follows the adventures of four large families in northern India in 1951. India has just become independent and the country is preparing for the first elections. Against this background, university student Lata is determined to forge her own path to independence. She rejects her mother's attempts to find her "a suitable boy" to marry. Meanwhile, the headstrong young man Maan, linked to Lata through the marriage of their siblings, is an embarrassment to his politician father. He becomes obsessed with the beautiful courtesan Saaeda Bai.
