The series investigates the shocking 2006 murder of 16-year-old Cassie Jo Stoddart in Pocatello, Idaho. While house-sitting for her family, she was brutally stabbed to death by two classmates, Brian Draper and Torey Adamcik. The perpetrators were obsessed with horror films, particularly the 1996 film Scream. They attempted to recreate their own "horror film" in real life, including selecting a victim and directing the "scene." Eighteen years after the crime, the series features new prison interviews with Draper and Adamcik (both serving life sentences), rare interrogation footage, and interviews with the families of both the victim and the perpetrators.
