Dit seizoen van 'Life and Death Row' (2018) is opgehangen aan het summum van bureaucratische absurditeit. De houdbaarheidsdatum van het executiemiddel Midazolam verloopt namelijk, waardoor de staat Arkansas in allerijl executies moet voltrekken die soms al decennialang lopen. Dit uitgangspunt levert broeierige, spannende sfeerjournalistiek op waarin het verstrijken van de tijd op het gemoed drukt van alle betrokkenen bij het media-circus. Of het de families zijn van daders en slachtoffers - op hun eigen manieren getraumatiseerd en getekend door hoe de strafprocessen nodeloos blijven voortslepen - die met angst of opluchting tegemoet zien dat de straf wordt voltrokken. Of gouverneur Hutchinson die met Christelijke rechtlijnigheid moet besluiten wie er een pardon krijgt en wie niet, terwijl een strafrechtadvocaat van hot naar her sjeest om zijn cliënten bij te staan.
