Styx plot

Police officer Raphaël Styx is corrupt, his wife Isabelle has filed for divorce and his children are estranged from him. One night on the beach of Ostend he surprises a masked murderer who strangles a man. He chases the perpetrator to the pier, but there the killer pulls out a gun and shoots Styx. When the sun rises again over the chilly North Sea, Styx's body washes up on the beach. He is still alive and opens his eyes, but he no longer feels a pulse... What kind of nightmare has he ended up in?

Zowaar de eerste volwaardige "horror-serie" van Vlaamse bodem en een Streamz-product. En waarbij in het begin nog enige mysterie rondhing, verdwijnt dit vrij snel en nee dan gaat het voor mij echt alleen nog bergafwaarts, kitsch horror, waarbij ik eerder groen heb moeten lachen dan wat anders. Neem nu Sebastien Dewaele die snel merkt dat er vanalles niet pluis is en als zombie verder moet, oa dat, maar gewoon het geheel qua cast en verhaal kwamen echt te fout en lachwekkend over. En Koen De Bouw, die zijn talenten al veelvuldig getoond heeft op het witte doek en op het scherm en echt een van onze betere acteurs is. Awel zelfs hij mist punch en trekt de serie niet naar hoger niveau, neen z'n hoog kapsel veranderd daar niets aan, integendeel, komt ook eerder funny over. Dus Vlaanderen en horror, het was al een zeer moeilijk, bijna onmogelijk huwelijk qua film en tja deze "horror-serie" bevestigd enkel dat horror hier moeilijk te creëren blijkt. Laten we het dan, zeker qua series, maar bij het drama, komedie, thriller, actie, rechtbank genre houden. Deze serie krijgt van mij een povere 4/10.

And Koen De Bouw, who has already shown his talents many times on the silver screen and on screen and is truly one of our better actors. Well, even he lacks punch and does not take the series to a higher level, no, his high haircut does not change that, on the contrary, it also comes across as rather funny.

So Flanders and horror, it was already a very difficult, almost impossible marriage in terms of film and well, this "horror series" only confirms that horror appears to be difficult to create here.

Let's stick to the drama, comedy, thriller, action, court genre, especially in terms of series.

This series gets a poor 4/10 from me.

Styx heeft het niet onder de markt. Op zijn werk moeten ze hem niet, zijn vrouw bedriegt hem met een Afrikaan en zijn enige zoon is een ondankbaar mietje. Met deze premisses kon men heus wel wat beters hebben afgeleverd dan deze erbarmelijke serie. Na een niet onaardige eerste aflevering, werd het snel trekken en sleuren om de afleveringen door te komen. Wat mij betreft duurden ze te lang en was het plot niet interessant genoeg. De excentrieke dokter, gespeeld door Koen De Bouw en de fantastische acteur Aimé Claeys (die hier een vrij eloquent script krijgt) proberen wel om er het beste van te maken en ook de Streamz-marketeers draaiden overuren om ons te overtuigen van het tegendeel, maar dit was echt een rommeltje. Leuk dat we hier in Vlaanderen eens het horrorgenre verkennen, maar het moest gewoon beter.

Styx is not one of the best in the market. They don't like him at work, his wife cheats on him with an African and his only son is an ungrateful wimp. With these premises they could certainly have delivered something better than this miserable series. After a not bad first episode, it quickly became a struggle to get through the episodes. As far as I'm concerned, they lasted too long and the plot wasn't interesting enough. The eccentric doctor, played by Koen De Bouw and the fantastic actor Aimé Claeys (who gets a fairly eloquent script here) try to make the best of it and the Streamz marketers also worked overtime to convince us of the opposite, but this was really a mess. It's nice that we are exploring the horror genre here in Flanders, but it just had to be better.

Dit script rammelt redelijk hard en de acteerprestaties waren van sommigen ook niet echt overtuigend. Jammer, want hier kon men meer mee doen.

This script rattles quite hard and the acting performances of some were not really convincing.

Too bad, because more could be done with this.
