Shetland plot
We meet Jimmy Perez, a local police inspector. He is a real Shetlander who has lived elsewhere for years but at some point returned to his homeland, together with his fourteen-year-old daughter Cassie. Perez is someone who never says too much, but who radiates natural authority: a combination of qualities that comes in handy when solving crimes.

More than a solid series, indeed taking place there on the archipelago where the ponies of the same name come from. All pretty understated, and that's usually nice. The close coherence of such a relatively small and closed community is regularly discussed, as well as family vicissitudes. Plus of course the necessary murder cases.
Of course you get the necessary leads and sometimes some far-fetched denouements as befits detectives, but on the whole it feels quite believable and genuine, many thanks to the sober main character, excellently played by Douglas Henshall.

Pretty entertaining series and yet I feel like I'm missing something, a certain empathy or acceptance of characters, including the main character...
Maybe because this 6th season is only the first I see.
