Murphy's Law plot
Tommy Murphy is a cop of the 'rough shell, white pit' type. He comes from Northern Ireland, where his family was once held hostage by terrorists. Partly because of the choices Murphy made at the time, the hostage situation for his daughter was fatal. The event still has a huge impact on his life, even as he infiltrates criminal circles in London as an undercover cop. Murphy is firmly committed to never making wrong compromises again, with all the consequences that entails.

This first season relies entirely on James Nesbitt's charisma, and in any case doesn't let him lack it. It's just a shame that the individual episodes differ enormously in level. The series seems to get better in the later seasons, but I dropped out after one season because it didn't grab my attention enough to continue.
