Derrick is a German crime series in which Stephan Derrick, Chief Inspector at the Munich Criminal Police Department (criminal police), together with his assistant Harry Klein, solve murders. The murders often take place in rich environments.

From this third volume, the killer is no longer always shown from the beginning. Sometimes it's a whodunit; sometimes the revelations are staggered. Derrick now wears a Rolex and drives a BMW. That had to do with sponsorship; in reality, the German police drove a Volkswagen. We see the Oberinspektor hitting a punching bag and doing target practice. There is never violence for the sake of violence. The murder serves as the linchpin of a dramatic build-up.

Sometimes the trust of a frightened witness has to be won. In the fifth episode, Derrick's mistress Renate reappears for the second and final time, this time actively involved as a psychologist. Sometimes the same actor returns with a different hair color or a fake mustache. Beanstalk Gottfried John, known for several Fassbinder films, has a guest role as a shady underworld figure. It's nice to watch those old episodes in the correct order, and it will improve your German.

Favorite episodes: 3, 7 and 11.
