Derrick plot

Derrick is a German crime series in which Stephan Derrick, Chief Inspector at the Munich Criminal Police Department (criminal police), together with his assistant Harry Klein, solve murders. The murders often take place in rich environments.

A quarter of a century after his debut, Derrick looks really old. Harry also no longer looks so fit, and Berger has turned gray. Just when you start to wonder if this is one season too much, here are a few final highlights. The best episodes are often those shown from the perpetrator's point of view. Then it revolves around the psychological conflict and playing on the guilty conscience.

In the very last episode, Derrick is promoted away to Europol. While his life is in danger, he gives a moving speech. He denounces the sensationalism of the 1990s, which gave crime an entertainment value. He denounces the fact that crime has acquired an entertainment value, whereby a thrill-seeking audience experiences a form of vicarious excitement. That is exactly what this crime has been responding to for a quarter of a century. A more appropriate farewell could not have been possible.
