Bones plot

Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist at the Jeffersonian Institute. She and her team of highly talented scientists help the FBI solve murder cases. Not only old, unsolved murder cases are solved, but also recent murder cases. While working for the FBI, she teams up with Seeley Booth. There are occasional disagreements between the FBI and the Jeffersonian Institute, as does Brennan (and her team) and Booth. But in the end, the two sides always resolve matters.

Bones season 12

In 2005 we got an American crime series on television. Now after 12 years later, the twelfth and (decidedly) final season of Bones follows. Finally, this season starts with the cliffhanger of season 11. The sequel to season 11 takes two episodes. Then follows a surprising twist that sidetracks the story and continues from there. As a common thread, a family tragedy builds up in this season and it is further filled with separate stories.

As a drama, the series is not quite present yet, it all remains just a bit too unbelievable. This incredibility is in the bad jokes and (funny) situations that pass by and seem to take the upper hand. The characters also contain special characters which are very deepened in this series. This, together with the humor, doesn't work out too well and sometimes doesn't seem to want to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of the serious, well-thought-out stories that come along. It seems as if the series asks for it and you as a viewer have to take it with a grain of salt.

Unfortunately, that's not the only thing I noticed about this series. This season started very dark. It may have been set in a dark setting, but this never really seemed to change. It seems as if a filter has been put over it that remains a bit darker. The set also sometimes seems a bit too full, for example the laboratory. And then with a total shot (in that setting, for example) comes across as a bit too busy.

In general it will be all right. But for a season made in the last two years, I expected a bit more quality. Perhaps a fan (who has followed the series since it started) thinks otherwise.
