The Flatshare plot
Tiffy and Leon share a bed. They do that to save money. He has the bed during the day and she sleeps on the left side at night. They have not yet met and communicate only through notes. Tiffy is a bright young journalist for a small online magazine and Leon is a nurse in a nursing home. Friends, relationships, work and family are a constant juggle for these two.

The six-part British romantic comedy The Flatshare starts with an original premise. Tiffany (Jessica Brown Findlay - Downton Abbey, Brave New World) and Leon (Anthony Welsh - Hanna, Pure) share an apartment without seeing each other. Tiffany works at a fancy online magazine during the day, Leon works night shifts at a hospice. They share a bed, but not with each other.
Don't expect well-worn rom-com paths to Hartenstraat or Costa in The Flatshare. The usual clichés are largely avoided. Expect a surprising meet-cute and a lively screenplay based on the book of the same name by Beth O'Leary. The Flatshare is refreshing and almost in the best British tradition of (dramatic) comedies such as Trigonometry, Cheaters or Cold Feet. Almost.
Due to the many subplots - including the one about the older love couple - The Flatshare becomes a bit messy. A sharper edge wouldn't have gone amiss either. But there is plenty to enjoy for fans of British rom-coms.
