Rafferty's Rules plot

Michael Aloysius Rafferty is a judge and the series continuously discusses cases in which he has to administer justice. Rafferty drives to work every day in an old blue Volkswagen bus. He is separated from his wife, with whom he has a son and a daughter. He also has an older daughter, Rebecca Browning, who is twenty years old, and whose existence he is only recently aware of.
