De Verschrikkelijke Jaren Tachtig plot
The nine-year-old girl Piet tries to survive within the absurd reality and unusual family situation of a residential group in the eighties. This residential group consists of four women, four children and one man: Bert. He's the leader, and the community will know it. In the group everything is shared: money, the children, yogurt, valium; everything belongs to everyone. But how do you share the things you can't grasp? Where do you leave sorrow? How do you say your heart is broken when house meetings are all about who goes to the Chinese takeout when? Everyone tries to comply with Bert's 183 house rules as best as possible, but when child protection comes into the picture and threatens to put the children out of the house on a bad day, the adults realize that things can no longer be done like this: something has to change, and the painful past can no longer remain unnamed. The group must be prevented from exploding. So get started. The great sadness that the residential group has been silently carrying for years must be named.
