De Luizenmoeder plot

De Luizenmoeder is set in primary school and follows parents and teachers who fight their feuds over the children's heads. Determined to get her life back on track as soon as possible after the divorce, Hannah, the new mother with a daughter in group three, plunges into the world that takes place in and around the schoolyard of primary school De Klimop. Civic integration courses are unfortunately not given, so Hannah tries to master the mores of the schoolyard by trial and error. Even though she had vowed not to let herself be put to the test at this school, strange teachers and the all-consuming 'mother mafia' don't make it easy for her.

Na 1.5 aflevering ook maar weer gestopt. Ik wilde er eigenlijk al niet aan beginnen, maar werd een beetje moe van het feit dat ik steeds niet begreep waar iedereen zo hysterisch over was. De nieuwsgierigheid won het uiteindelijk dus toch. Ach, nu weet ik in ieder geval wat er zo grappig is (of in ieder geval zou moeten zijn) aan 'hallo allemaal.' Het is allemaal totaal niet grappig. Het heeft bij mij niet te maken met hard of racistisch overigens, ik kan dat allemaal prima hebben. Tot op een bepaalde hoogte natuurlijk, maar heb nog niet echt het gevoel gehad dat deze serie daarmee écht veel te ver ging. Het is ook niet zo dat de serie geen herkenning oplevert. Het zit vol met herkenbare momenten, zeker voor de ouders onder ons. Dat maakt het ook wel een beetje triest trouwens, dat het er daadwerkelijk zo aan toegaat op de basisscholen. Natuurlijk wordt het gebracht met dat stukje sarcasme (en klaarblijkelijk humor) en zijn de juffen niet zo recht voor de raap als juf Ank, maar de herkenning is er in grote lijnen zeker. Ik stem niet snel op series die ik niet heb afgekeken, maar heb besloten om in dit geval een uitzondering te maken. Het kan natuurlijk best zijn dat het later in het seizoen beter wordt, al heb ik al vernomen dat aflevering 3 tegenviel, maar ik verwacht niet dat ik dit ook maar iets beter ga waarderen.

Stopped again after 1.5 episodes. I actually didn't want to start, but got a little tired of the fact that I kept not understanding what everyone was so hysterical about. Curiosity won out in the end. Well, at least now I know what's so funny (or at least should be) about "hello everyone." It's not funny at all. For me it has nothing to do with being harsh or racist, I can handle all of that just fine. To a certain extent, of course, but I haven't really had the feeling that this series really went too far.

It is also not that the series does not generate recognition. It is full of recognizable moments, especially for the parents among us. That also makes it a bit sad, by the way, that this is actually the case in primary schools. Of course it is brought with that bit of sarcasm (and apparently humor) and the teachers are not as straightforward as Miss Ank, but the recognition is generally there.

I don't often vote for series that I haven't watched, but I've decided to make an exception in this case. Of course it may well be that it gets better later in the season, although I have already heard that episode 3 was disappointing, but I don't expect that I will appreciate this even slightly better.

'De Luizenmoeder' is na negen afleveringen meer tamme werkplaatskomedie gebleken dan bikkelharde satire. Het schuurt niet, integendeel: mogelijke stekeligheden (zoals: o.a. racisme en discriminatie, de voorzichtige omgang met kinderen of MeToo) worden ingebed in een braaf format dat zijdelings controversiële punten benoemt, maar nergens doorbijt of men een scherpe positie laat innemen. Het is eigenlijk niet zo vreemd dat de Nederlandse bevolking massaal deze stiekem best warme serie heeft omarmd, want het stelt weinig écht ter discussie en verpakt actualiteiten zo dat het vooral tegemoet komt aan wat men 'een gemiddelde Nederlander' zou kunnen noemen. De redelijke Nederlander die vindt dat het een beetje doorslaat met extremiteiten rond kinderfeestjes en te specifiek taalgebruik voor groepen in maatschappelijk kwetsbare posities. Die zijn of haar kinderen het beste in het leven gunt, maar ook ziet dat de pedagogische correctheid en competitiedrift lang niet altijd in het voordeel uitpakken van hun nageslacht. De serie is een warm bad voor een meerderheidsgroep waarin Juf Ank en directeur Anton vooral laten zien dat het godnondeju wél gezellig moet blijven in Nederland. Waarom er groepen zijn die Nederland soms als minder fijn ervaren, och, dat zijn zeurpieten of SJW's.

After nine episodes, 'De Luizenmoeder' turned out to be more tame workplace comedy than rock hard satire. It doesn't rub, on the contrary: possible thorns (such as: racism and discrimination, the careful handling of children or MeToo) are embedded in a well-behaved format that mentions controversial points sideways, but never bites through or allows one to take a sharp position. It is actually not so strange that the Dutch population has embraced this secretly quite warm series en masse, because it does not really bring up much discussion and packs current affairs in such a way that it mainly caters to what one could call 'an average Dutch person'. The reasonable Dutch person who thinks things are going a bit too far with extremities around children's parties and language that is too specific for groups in socially vulnerable positions. Who wishes his or her children the best in life, but also sees that the pedagogical correctness and competitive drive do not always work out in favor of their offspring. The series is a warm bath for a majority group in which Juf Ank and director Anton above all show that the godnondeju must remain cozy in the Netherlands. Why there are groups that sometimes experience the Netherlands as less pleasant, oh, those are whiners or SJWs.

Vier afleveringen gezien. De eerste aflevering was wel aardig omdat de grens opgezocht werd. Gevolg: de nodige aandacht, maar de vervolgafleveringen halen dat niveau niet en meer dan gezapig wordt het niet. Ik heb me er niet toe kunnen aanzetten om de andere afleveringen te zien en dat is natuurlijk een erg slecht teken. 0,5*. Mocht ik me de serie toch ooit afkijken zal dit cijfer natuurlijk opnieuw geëvalueerd worden.

Watched four episodes. The first episode was nice because the border was sought. Result: the necessary attention, but the follow-up episodes don't reach that level and it doesn't get more than sluggish. I couldn't bring myself to see the other episodes and that's obviously a very bad sign. 0.5*. If I ever finish watching the series, this figure will of course be re-evaluated.
