De Collega's plot

The Colleagues is set in the offices of a government service. The civil servants who work there are caricatured. The work rhythm leaves a lot of time free that is filled with gossip, bickering, bullying and reading the newspaper. Everyone has their own idiosyncrasies and colleagues will not miss an opportunity to exploit them. There is also the struggle between the different ministries.

De Collega's season 1

Without a doubt the best of the best that the BRT/VRT has ever made in the field of comedy.
Unmatched by later similar series.
Impossible too, because the original cast, mainly consisting of actors and actresses from the Mechels Miniatuurtheater, played an unbeatable match.
A monument of the Belgian TV.

De Collega's season 1

This satire on the finance department of the unwieldy government apparatus is a continuation of the old jokes about civil servants, who are said to be lazy because they are paid by the hour. The Brussels office building is a stronghold of bureaucracy and a small tower of Babel, where Dutch is spoken in all kinds of shades: Allocation Flemish, the Antwerp of Tienpondt, the Brussels of Baconfoy and the ABN of language purist Verastenhoven. It has to do with their political leanings: Flamingant, Frenchified Fleming, Christian Democrat or tender anarchist. Everyone knows his place in the hierarchy, in which classifier Jomme Dockx dangles at the bottom. Various

The emphasis is on the humor, but there are also sombre moments. Conflicting personalities, political appointments, rivalries, gossip and teasing create conflict and funny situations. Visually there is little to it; they are talking people in a TV studio. Jan Matterne's dialogues more than make up for that, however. The jingle by Pieter Verlinden is cleverly instrumented and returns in varied versions.

The actors had experience on stage, often at the Mechels Miniatuur Teater (progressive spelling!). The Verreth brothers became so popular that they were also allowed to present Pak de poen - although it was not an unqualified success. Jaak Van Assche and Tuur De Weert would appear in a lot of TV series. Coffee lady madame Arabelle was played by Jo Crab, Jan de Corte's mother. In the first episode, Romain Deconinck has a guest role. This piece of TV history deserves to be remembered.

Favorite episodes: 1, 2, 8.
