A Man on the Inside plot

Widowed and retired, Charles is eager to break away from his daily routine and answers an ad from a private investigator to solve a mysterious theft. Posing as a new resident of the Pacific View Retirement Residence in San Francisco, he goes deep undercover in the senior living community. There, he builds heartwarming new friendships and, along the way, reconnects with his daughter.

Kijkt wel lekker weg, maar echt boeiend wordt het niet. Ted Danson speelt aardig, maar het is allemaal behoorlijk voorspelbaar. Kortom, geen grote aanrader, maar wel leuk als je even wat luchtigs tussendoor wil kijken.

It's nice to watch, but it's not really exciting.

Ted Danson gives a decent performance, but it's all quite predictable.

In short, not highly recommended, but nice if you want to watch something lighthearted in between.

Jongens, dit is GEEN komedie. Het is echt een drama. Thema's als familiebanden, vriendschap, ouderdom, eenzaamheid, dementie en noem maar op voeren de boventoon, en zeker niet allemaal op lichtvoetige wijze. Serieuze dialogen en moralen krijgen ruim baan. HET IS GEEN KOMEDIE. Echt geen flauw idee waarom MM dit nota bene als enig genre benoemd. Tuurlijk zijn er komische momenten en scenes, maar van het makkelijke soort, doet soms zelf kinderachtig aan. Het idee is grappig en een leuk uitgangspunt, maar het komt echt niet uit de verf. Althans, niet als je een leuke komedie voor de luchtigheid wilt kijken. Dus belangrijkste tip: ontwijk deze serie als je daarnaar op zoek bent! Ik snap niet waarom de ratings zo hoog zijn. Op IMDB snap ik het nog wel beetje, want die Amerikanen gaan wel goed op dit soort sentiment denk ik.

Guys, this is NOT a comedy. It is a real drama. Themes such as family ties, friendship, old age, loneliness, dementia and so on predominate, and certainly not all in a light-hearted way. Serious dialogues and morals are given free rein. IT IS NOT A COMEDY. Really have no idea why MM names this as the only genre.

Sure there are comic moments and scenes, but of the easy kind, sometimes even childish. The idea is funny and a nice premise, but it really doesn't come across. At least, not if you want to watch a nice comedy for the lightness. So most important tip: avoid this series if that's what you're looking for!

I don't get why the ratings are so high. On IMDB I kind of get it, because those Americans do well on this kind of sentiment I think.

Meer drama dan komedie of thriller. Ik had het mysterie vrij snel uitgevogeld, maar het maakt 'Man on the Inside' er eigenlijk niet minder om. Het gaat om de warme, menselijke connecties die Charles Nieuwendyk (Ted Danson) legt met de bewoners van het bejaardentehuis. De rol is zo op het lijf geschreven van Danson als hyperintelligente charmeur op leeftijd, die volledig geniet van zijn nieuwe rol als intrigant. Ook leuk om bekende gezichten uit 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' als Marc Evan Jackson en Stephanie Beatriz terug te zien. Vooral Beatriz is leuk als ietwat intimiderende directeur Didi, met haar stoïcijnse voorkomen en sluimerende frustraties. Laat mij dan de eerste zijn die nieuwsgierig is naar het tweede seizoen van 'Man on the Inside'. Iets zegt me dat Charles gaat afreizen naar Florida Keys...

More drama than comedy or thriller. I figured out the mystery pretty quickly, but that doesn't make 'Man on the Inside' any less enjoyable. It's about the warm, human connections that Charles Nieuwendyk (Ted Danson) makes with the residents of the retirement home. The role is tailor-made for Danson as a hyper-intelligent charmer in his old age, who fully enjoys his new role as schemer. It's also nice to see familiar faces from 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' like Marc Evan Jackson and Stephanie Beatriz. Beatriz in particular is fun as the somewhat intimidating director Didi, with her stoic appearance and simmering frustrations. Let me be the first to be curious about the second season of 'Man on the Inside'. Something tells me that Charles is going to travel to the Florida Keys...
