Koyomimonogatari plot

Koyomi Araragi is a high school student who has been attacked by a vampire in the past. He was a vampire himself for a short period of time, but in the end he managed to regain his humanity and helped several girls during their experiences with extraordinary phenomena. In each episode of this series, Koyomi is confronted with a mystery by one of the female characters in the story, after which he tries to solve the mystery either alone or with their help.

De minste in de Monogatari reeks en toch helaas noodzakelijk om het verhaal te volgen. Opmerkelijk genoeg is de hoofdpersoon maar weinig pervers vergeleken met de andere series. Niet heel erg, want soms was het dusdanig overdreven dat het stoorde. Voor het grootste gedeelte gaan de afleveringen volgens een vast patroon: Koyomi en een van de vele meisjes in zijn 'harem' (elk komt aan de beurt) onderzoeken een bepaald spookverhaal en de conclusie is steevast dat er een rationele verklaring is. Niet heel erg boeiend. Het geheel lijkt nog meer dialooggedreven dan de andere series en het moet gezegd worden dat zolang zijn pittige paarsharige vriendinnetje afwezig is (ze heeft alleen een hoofdrol in de tweede aflevering), die dialogen niet heel erg boeiend zijn. De laatste twee episodes (en misschien eigenlijk de laatste drie) lijken wel belangrijk te zijn voor het vervolg en zijn ook gelijk een stuk boeiender. Al moet ook gezegd worden dat deze afleveringen nog steeds niet op het niveau van de beste afleveringen uit de andere serie zitten, zeker wat animatie betreft. Het is allemaal nog statischer dan in de vorige series, alleen de soundtrack is op hetzelfde niveau (want uit de andere series overgenomen). Met andere woorden: deze serie bevat heel veel filler en helaas toch ook wel episoden die wel belangrijk zijn voor het grote verhaal, dus te vermijden is dit niet als je het hele Monogatari verhaal wilt weten. Maar goed, de episoden duren hooguit 15 minuten en er zijn er maar twaalf, dus zoveel tijd verspil je er ook niet aan. 1*.

Remarkably enough, the main character is not very perverse compared to the other series. Not a big deal, because sometimes it was so exaggerated that it bothered. For the most part, the episodes follow a set pattern: Koyomi and one of the many girls in his 'harem'

(each takes their turn) investigate a particular ghost story and the conclusion is invariably that there is a rational explanation. Not very exciting. The whole thing seems even more dialogue-driven than the other series and it must be said that as long as his feisty purple-haired girlfriend is absent (she only has a lead role in the second episode), those dialogues are not very interesting.

The last two episodes (and maybe actually the last three) seem to be important for the sequel and are also a lot more interesting. Although it must also be said that these episodes are still not at the level of the best episodes from the other series, especially when it comes to animation. It's all even more static than in the previous series, only the soundtrack is on the same level (because taken from the other series).

In other words: this series contains a lot of filler and unfortunately also has episodes that are important for the main story, so this is not to be avoided if you want to know the entire Monogatari story. Anyway, the episodes last at most 15 minutes and there are only twelve, so you don't waste that much time on it. 1*.
