David el Gnomo plot
The world of David de Kabouter is based on the world famous children's books De Kabouters and The Secret of the Gnomes by Dutch authors Rien Poortvliet and Wil Huygen. David the Gnome, and his wife Lisa, are peace-loving gnomes who live in a tree. They probably remind children of their grandparents. David travels the world on the back of his trusty fox, Swift, whom he calls by whistling, to help sick animals, gnomes and other mythical creatures with his medical expertise.

Rien Poortvliet's picture books were a lot better. This animated series is more 'saturday morning cartoon' rather than having the rich, detailed world of the original material. Yet it has its own charm. The intensely friendly voice of the voice actor who records David. The calm atmospheric sketches of natural landscapes. swift. The silly antics of those trolls (very scary!) Nicely green-left too, with political messages about taking better care of the environment and being good for animals.
