Ronja is a temperamental and rebellious girl who is born into a gang of robbers in a medieval Scandinavian castle. As Ronja grows up, she discovers a magical but dangerous forest with strange and mysterious creatures. Yet she feels more at home in the forest than behind the walls of the enormous castle. When Ronja meets the boy Birk from a rival gang, it is the start of a dark family feud and a forbidden friendship is born. At the same time, a lawman arrives in the area to rid the forest of robbers once and for all.
