Kunt U Mij de Weg naar Hamelen Vertellen, Mijnheer? plot

The city of Hamelin has a lot of problems with rats. No one can chase them away, until a strange figure reports to Mayor Walg at the town hall of Hamelin. He says he can chase the rats away if he gets a pot of gold as a reward. The so-called Pied Piper blows the rats away with his magic flute. The whole of Hamelin is overjoyed, except for the mayor and his city council. They could use the pot of gold for something else. Master Spicht therefore talks the mayor around, and wants to give the Pied Piper something else. But the Pied Piper is not satisfied and walks away angrily. In revenge, he blows all the kids out of town the next night, plus four adults.

Het verhaal was echt ijzersterk bedacht en het geheel zeer creatief uitgewerkt.En dan die bonte stoet van allerlei karakters,van reuzen tot waternixen tot luchtgeesten,prachtig allemaal.Ik was destijds wel erg jong maar die scenes met de verdwijnspiegel ben ik nooit meer vergeten.Superspannend. Een ander sterk punt vond ik dat Kunt U Mij de Weg naar Hamelen Vertellen, Mijnheer? nog niet dat super irritante opvoedende ondertoontje hadden wat je de laatste twintig jaar zoveel tegenkomt. Samen met Pippi Langkous en in iets mindere mate de Vloek van Woeste wolf en Q en Q toch de serie die me het meest uit mijn jeugd is bijgebleven. Maar dit was de beste.

The story was really well thought out and the whole very creatively worked out. And then that colorful procession of all kinds of characters, from giants to water nixes to air spirits, all beautiful. I was very young at the time, but I have never forgotten those scenes with the vanishing mirror. Super exciting.

Another strong point I found is that Can You Tell Me The Way To Hamelin, Sir? did not yet have that super annoying educational undertone that you have come across so much in the last twenty years.

Together with Pippi Longstocking and to a slightly lesser extent the Curse of Woeste wolf and Q and Q, the series that has stayed with me the most from my youth.

But this was the best.
