Just watched the second episode. And I'm starting to get interested in the main storyline where Desmond Hart and the Bene Gesserit seem to get a bigger role. Also, nice links are made to events that took place in the first episode. That makes the series interesting. It is not an empty story but one with depth.
The only thing I would like to do now is to go to Arrakis and see what the core of the story is about this planet. I hope that will happen.

And slowly I'm starting to drop out. It's becoming more and more a 'lot of bullshit' and not much of a Dune world. As described above, it's indeed becoming a kind of GTST. And an increasingly difficult to follow story that spreads out over different characters. Arrakis plays no role, the Artreides and Harkonnen are connected (but you can see that coming in episode 2) and now it's being presented as a super cliffhanger in part 5 (I suspect).
Travis Fimmel's cross-eyed tricks become cheap and even Emily Watson's role becomes more and more vague (the actress herself also seems to be looking around with the idea that she has to recite some lines but doesn't really know what they're about).
Oh yeah, you do see some spaceships flying (but why?) so then it's definitely sci-fi 
. And the worst are the 'picked up from the street' extras at the Emperor's banquet dinners. They are allowed to look at each other in amazement every time 'something strange' is said in the soap. And then they toast to the Emperor again and so on.
This series takes the shine off Villeneuve's films. And I think that's a shame. The Bene Gesserit are an intriguing subject in Herbert's books. Now it's a bunch of women who are just hanging around.

Dune: Prophecy has inexhaustible source material with the necessary films and books. That would be fine, you would think, but unfortunately. There are too many interchangeable characters with forgettable dialogues, which can give the vague story little depth. Even the last illuminating episode can't blow me away like a cutting sandstorm.
