D.P. plot
Jun-ho is a young soldier who likes to be on his own. However, his keen eye gets him assigned a spot with the Deserter Pursuit unit. His job is to bring military deserters back to base, safe and sound. As Jun-ho, along with a gruff corporal, pursue the runaway soldiers, he comes face to face with their reality and the pain that drove them to flee.

It's a complete coincidence that I put on 'DP' (2021) a day before the failed military coup in South Korea. This way you can put things into perspective better. The strict culture of authority full of unequal hierarchies, which makes abuse of power completely normal and no one can contradict each other. The result is nasty bullying that is no less intense than the flogging of Private Pyle in 'Full Metal Jacket' (1987). The strong point of 'DP' (2021) is that everyone is actually a victim of compulsory military service. Both for the team members of the Deserter Pursuit and for the deserted youths they hunt down. How can you feel protected by your own army when tyranny is so rampant!? Fortunately, there is plenty to laugh about in lighter passages around sympathetic rascals and farcical chases.
