Jefferson Pierce is a man who carries a secret. A father of two daughters and a high school principal that also acts as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood swept by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was another hero. Gifted with the superhuman power to use and control electricity, he used those powers to keep the streets of his hometown safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after seeing the effects of the damage his alter ego inflicted on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and established himself as a school principal and a father. Nearly a decade later, Pierce's days of crime-fighting are long behind him, but as crime and corruption spread like wildfire, Black Lightning returns.
