Fans have been left devastated after reports suggest that the hugely popular Netflix show The Witcher is set to be cancelled after its upcoming Season Five.
Fans had already come to terms with the loss of its star Henry Cavill, who in October last year announced he would not be returning to the role, with rumours suggesting he was looking to reprise his role in future Superman movies.
But that didn't come to pass, with the DCEU moving in an as-yet unknown direction for Superman, leaving Cavill in somewhat limbo, saying at the time: "I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.
"After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life."
Netflix responded to the news of Cavill's exit by announcing that Liam Hemsworth, brother of Thor star Chris, would take on the role of the much-beloved Geralt of Rivia going forward.
But Hemsworth's position looks to be a short-lived one, with reports suggesting that Nextflix are looking to end the series after its one remaining season - which still has no confirmed release date.
The report suggests: "There’s no official confirmation for this yet, but we’ve been hearing recently that yes, Season 5 is very likely the final season of The Witcher on Netflix."
Its thought that fan of the show, based on the highly successful game series, will have mixed feelings about its potentially imminent departure.
