Robert De Niro fans can breathe a sigh of relief as he reportedly will not be reprising his role of Travis Bickle for an Uber advert.
Taxi Driver's Bickle is one of De Niro's most iconic roles and his performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
There are many memorable moments from Taxi Driver, but none have a higher cultural impact than the "You talkin' to me?" scene in which De Niro speaks into a mirror in his bedroom.
The Sun previously reported that the legendary actor will play a version of Bickle in the ad for Uber, which was set to feature some other famous names getting in the back seat of the taxi.
Apparently, De Niro will play a taxi driver, but not THE taxi driver.
“De Niro’s Uber commercial has nothing to do with his Taxi Driver character," the actor's representative Stan Rosenfield told The Hollywood Reporter.
As an A-lister, De Niro is no stranger to celebrity endorsements as he has previously featured in ads for Warburton's Bread in the United Kingdom. A recent high-profile divorce has allegedly led him to appear in roles he might not have taken previously.
Why is De Niro in an ad for Warburton's bread?
De Niro has previously revealed that he did the ad for the breadmaker as he thought the concept was funny.
“Look, they asked me to do it and I met the guy, Warburton, and I thought it was funny," he told GQ.
“I saw Stallone do it and I thought at least he has a sense of humour about it and about himself. And I thought I can look at it two ways. Should I think I should never have done that? I’m too good for that or something? And I said, f*** it, I’ll do it. Why not?”
“Don’t hold it against me.”
In the advert, De Niro plays a mafioso who attempts to threaten the owner of Warburton's into selling New York-style bagels.
