Single-Handed plot
Jack Driscoll returns from Dublin to the seaside village where he was born and raised. As a sergeant, he succeeds his father, who has recently retired. Its neighborhood is large, the terrain extreme, and the community lives on the fringes. Jack must be available 24 hours a day and is often alone in the most difficult cases. His first case is the mysterious death of Sylvana, a young Eastern European immigrant, who is found dead in her old caravan. She worked at the nearby hotel. Jack soon learns that she was loved by several men who took advantage of her being poor.
