This eight-part miniseries brings Stephen King's bizarre "Nightmares & Dreamscapes" collection to life. There are murderous toy soldiers who try to avenge the death of their maker, a lost couple ends up at a concert where they can no longer leave and a private detective finds out that he was a made-up character from a book series all along.

Nog even aan de Stephen King met deze miniserie/anthologie die ik bij de kringloop was tegengekomen. En ach, ik kan een beetje King best waarderen maar deze compilatie van verhaaltjes uit verschillende bundels was toch eigenlijk niet zo heel best. Want waar de echte Nachtmerries en dromenlandschappen best leuk is met aparte verhaaltjes is dit toch meestal gewoon prut. Desondanks begint het geheel nog oke met de Hitman die aangevallen wordt in zijn flat, iets dat toch wel prachtig gemaakt is maar natuurlijk niet een moment eng. Tot op dat moment niet echt een vuiltje aan de lucht, maar daarna stort het wel erg snel in met het tweede verhaal waar Claire Forlani erg leuk is maar het verhaal nergens naar toe gaat en de CGI om te janken. Hetzelfde overigens met die gozer uit de bajes waar het een mager misdaad verhaaltje betreft maar vooral Samantha Mathis de beste reden is om te kijken. En zo wankelt en zwalkt verder met verhalen die ronduit belachelijk slecht naar het beeld vertaald zijn zoals het Rock en Roll stadje, of de schrijver met zijn darmproblemen of de prive detective die gewoon totaal niet interessant zijn. Net als de autopsie die vooral flauw humoristisch is en dus allesbehalve eng. Afijn, het mag duidelijk zijn dat dit wat mij betreft ver onder de maat is en ik ontzettend blij was dat de speelduur er op zat. Mijn advies gewoon niet eens aan beginnen.

Still on Stephen King with this miniseries/anthology that I came across at the thrift store. And oh, I can appreciate a bit of King but this compilation of stories from different collections was actually not that great. Because where the real Nachtmeries en droomlandschapen is quite nice with separate stories this is usually just crap.

Despite this, the whole thing starts off okay with the Hitman being attacked in his flat, something that is beautifully made but of course not scary for a moment. Up to that point not really a problem, but then it collapses very quickly with the second story where Claire Forlani is very nice but the story goes nowhere and the CGI is to cry about. The same with that guy from prison where it concerns a meager crime story but especially Samantha Mathis is the best reason to watch. And so it staggers and staggers further with stories that are downright ridiculously badly translated to the image such as the Rock and Roll town, or the writer with his intestinal problems or the private detective who are just not interesting at all. Just like the autopsy that is mainly blandly humorous and therefore anything but scary.

Anyway, it should be clear that this is far below par for me and I was very glad when the playing time was up. My advice is just don't even start.
