Imperfect Women plot
When Nancy Hennessy is murdered, she leaves behind two best friends, a loving husband and daughter, and a secret lover whose identity she took with her to the grave. Nancy was beautiful, wealthy, and loved by all who knew her—from the outside, her life seemed perfect. But as the investigation into her death stalls and her friends Eleanor and Mary grapple with their grief, dark details emerge that reveal how little they knew their friend, each other, and perhaps even themselves.

Imperfect Women is an eight-part American drama that clearly follows in the footsteps of series like Big Little Lies, The Undoing, and Little Fires Everywhere. The series gets off to a slow start but becomes increasingly convincing from the third episode onwards. At its center is the complex bond between three completely different friends, interwoven with a murder mystery that unfolds through jumps in time. That structure works surprisingly well: the tension is carefully built up and ultimately leads to a convincing but predictable finale.
The three female lead roles are solidly portrayed (with such a cast, it could hardly be otherwise), within a script that is lively and witty. Yet, not everything is equally strong. As is often the case in American drama, some characters—especially in the supporting roles—remain superficial. That does not detract from the fact that Imperfect Women holds up as an intriguing and atmospheric quest for lies, guilt, and redemption, and continues to captivate despite its imperfections.
