Mystery drama by Alfonso Cuarón (Roma, Gravity) that slowly unravels a family secret and puts mutual relationships on edge. The leading role is played by Cate Blanchett (as writer Catherine Ravenscroft) who, like the rest of the cast, delivers excellent acting. What secret does Catherine carry with her? What happened 20 years ago in Italy? Is she responsible, liable, guilty? Is she a victim? Or is nothing what it seems?

In frequent but clear flashbacks, the 7-part Apple TV+ series reveals its dark side. Disclaimer is well-crafted cinematically, with lush long shots in pale colors, a Cuarón trademark. Towards the finale, this slow burner sags a bit too much and becomes predictable and repetitive. As a stylish revenge drama with top actors, Disclaimer is more than successful.

I thought this was a fantastic series with a cast that simply does a great job. Especially Blanchett and Cohan, who I found horrible in his other serious role, The Trial of the Chicago 7, but now delivers a great performance.

It was a bit of a puzzle and speculation throughout the series as to how exactly things were going, but that was what made it interesting and exciting....
