Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey plot
On December 26, 1996, John and Patsy Ramsey awaken the morning after a loving family Christmas to find their youngest child, six-year-old JonBenét, missing, with a chilling ransom note found downstairs. Later that day, John Ramsey discovers his daughter’s body in the basement, revealing the shocking truth that JonBenét had not been kidnapped, but instead sexually assaulted and brutally murdered in their own home. The Boulder, Colorado police, with little practical experience in murder investigations, quickly cast suspicion on JonBenét’s family as the most likely suspects, fanning the flames of media attention and largely one-sided reporting. Twenty-eight years later, the obsession—and the blaming—has not subsided, and the murder of JonBenét Ramsey remains unsolved. This docuseries examines the police and media malpractice in the case.

It remains amazing how the image formation in America is so caught between exaggerated sensationalism and a puritanical morality. Or as 'Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey' (2024) suggests, the police services delayed the investigation by leaking exaggerated stories to gossip magazines. The Ramseys had to be convicted based on those rumors of sexual abuse, even with evidence to the contrary. What sane parent would let their children participate in such beauty pageants for children!? It makes 'Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey' (2024) yet another true crime documentary about media influence on the American legal system. I am not familiar with the case surrounding JonBenét, but I don't think you will learn anything shocking new. Still, an entertaining introduction to the case.
