Altered Carbon plot

Society will look very different in the future. Human consciousness can be digitized and thereby also transformed into other bodies. Death is no longer permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is a lone surviving soldier from a group of elite interstellar fighters who was defeated in an uprising against the New World. His mind has been imprisoned in ice for centuries, until wealthy Laurens Bancroft gives him another chance. In exchange for a new life in a new body, Kovacs must solve a murder: the murder of Bancroft himself.

Deze serie is na 1 aflevering te hebben gezien echt mijn ding, strak verhaal, goede cast en erg mooie CGI effecten. Het verhaal is wel een beetje warrig en wazig maar afijn ik heb zelf nog maar 1 gezien en denk dat verder in de serie wel bepaalde elementen duidelijk worden. Ik ben benieuwd hoe de rest van deze serie zal verlopen, maar ik heb daar wel een goed gevoel over.

After having seen 1 episode, this series is really my thing, tight story, good cast and very nice CGI effects. The story is a bit muddled and blurry, but I've only seen 1 myself and I think certain elements will become clear further in the series. I'm curious how the rest of this series will go, but I do have a good feeling about that.

Eerste helft van het seizoen is een stuk sterker dan de tweede helft. Wat mysterie, sf, virtual reality, leuke cast, goede world building, goede actie, etc maar op het einde worden de sterke punten ingewisseld voor wat minder. De flashback aflevering was eigenlijk waar het mis ging (om echt heel erg goed te zijn. Plus de antagonist was iets te onwaarschijnlijk in karakteropbouw.

The first half of the season is a lot stronger than the second half. Some mystery, sf, virtual reality, nice cast, good world building, good action, etc but in the end the strong points are exchanged for less. The flashback episode was actually where it went wrong (to be really, really good. Plus the antagonist was a little too improbable in character build.

Erg wisselvallig, deze visueel indrukwekkende maar inhoudelijk vaak haperende Netflix SF-serie, gebaseerd op het gelijknamige boek van Richard K. Morgan. Het ziet er allemaal fraai uit en de aktiescenes zijn eersteklas, maar de personages zijn niet bepaald charismatisch en de plot weet amper te boeien. Herhaaldelijk kon ik dan ook amper mijn aandacht erbij houden. Af en toe gebeuren er dan wel weer wat coole dingen, waardoor je toch blijft doorkijken, maar echt geweldig wordt het helaas nergens.

Very changeable, this visually impressive but content-wise often faltering Netflix SF series, based on the book of the same name by Richard K. Morgan. It all looks nice and the action scenes are top-notch, but the characters aren't exactly charismatic and the plot is barely captivating. Repeatedly I could hardly keep my attention. Now and then some cool things happen, so you keep looking, but unfortunately it never gets really great.
