The Pitt centers on the employees of Trauma Medical Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As the head nurse, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch presides over a fifteen-hour shift in the emergency room. Each day, he faces new challenges facing healthcare workers in modern-day America, seen through the lens of frontline heroes.

Ook in het tweede seizoen van The Pitt blijft de Eerste Hulp van een ziekenhuis in Pittsburgh een snelkookpan waar iedereen langzaam in real time gillend gek wordt. Vooral ook omdat bepaalde doktoren hun eigen frustraties op anderen afreageren - ik kijk nu naar jullie, doktoren Robby en Santos. Al die emotie geeft de schrijvers acteurs alle mogelijkheid hun kunnen te laten tonen en dat is weer niet gering; zet die Emmies maar vast weer klaar. Een paar nieuwe karakters worden goed ingepast, met co-afdelingshoofd dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) als belangrijkste. En daarmee is het nog steeds één van de beste series van het moment. Dit seizoen speelt zich af op 4 juli, dus verwacht de nodige drank- en vuurwerkongelukken. Af en toe wordt het wel net te veel een voorlichtingsspotje over een probleem dat speelt in de Amerikaanse gezondheidszorg en voor een serie die toch gaat voor rauw realisme worden een paar rare keuzes gemaakt, waarbij die voor een tuchtzaak op een nationale feestdag de raarste is.

In the second season of The Pitt, the Pittsburgh hospital's Emergency Room remains a pressure cooker where everyone is slowly going crazy in real time. Especially because certain doctors take out their own frustrations on others—I'm looking at you now, Doctors Robby and Santos. All that emotion gives the writers every opportunity to let the actors showcase their skills, and that is no small feat; get those Emmys ready again. A few new characters are well integrated, with co-department head Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi) being the most prominent. And that makes it still one of the best series of the moment. This season takes place on July 4th, so expect plenty of drinking and fireworks mishaps.

Occasionally, it becomes just a bit too much of an educational spot about a problem plaguing the American healthcare system, and for a series that aims for raw realism, a few strange choices are made, the oddest of which is the one regarding a disciplinary hearing on a national holiday.

Uitstekende tweede reeks van deze superieure ziekenhuis-serie. De real time-opzet (ieder uur van een 15-uur durende dienst krijgt een aparte aflevering toebedeeld) werkt nog steeds naar behoren en de personages en de overwegend hachelijke medische situaties waarin zij zich bevinden zijn nog steeds fascinerend. Daarnaast worden er een aantal interessante nieuwe personages geïntroduceerd. Binnen het genre de absolute top.

Excellent second season of this superior hospital series. The real-time format (each hour of a 15-hour shift is allocated a separate episode) still works well, and the characters and the predominantly precarious medical situations they find themselves in remain fascinating. Additionally, a number of interesting new characters are introduced. The absolute top within the genre.

Het eerste seizoen van The Pitt ontving 13 Emmy nominaties en won er vijf. Terecht. Na ER is The Pitt waarschijnlijk de beste ziekenhuisserie. Seizoen twee speelt zich af op 4 juli, Independence Day, en staat opnieuw garant voor verbluffende televisie. Misschien net wat minder verrassend na seizoen 1, maar het acteergeweld, de actuele en realistische patiëntenzorg, het fijne scenario en de boeiende karakters maken The Pitt opnieuw tot een verslavende kijkervaring. Met naar schatting 65 miljoen mensen onverzekerd of onderverzekerd, is The Pitt een levensechte en pijnlijke aanklacht tegen het zorgsysteem in de VS.

The first season of The Pitt received 13 Emmy nominations and won five. Deservedly so. After ER, The Pitt is probably the best hospital series. Season two takes place on July 4th, Independence Day, and once again guarantees stunning television. Perhaps just a little less surprising after season 1, but the outstanding acting, the topical and realistic patient care, the fine script, and the compelling characters make The Pitt an addictive viewing experience once again. With an estimated 65 million people uninsured or underinsured, The Pitt is a vivid and painful indictment of the healthcare system in the US.
