The documentary America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (ASDCC) is about the annual recruitment and training of - ultimately - 36 cheerleaders who provide the prestigious side program of American football club the Dallas Cowboys. Cheerleading is popular in the US, and it explains the attention for this intangible cultural heritage. ASDCC is therefore a typical American production.

We learn everything about cheerleading, veterans and rookies, and also see the mutual competition and friendship. ASDCC lacks content and depth; even the stories about the heavy physical exertion, mental problems, eating disorders and private issues remain superficial. After episode 5, the series loses focus, but remains a sympathetic but at the same time uncritical ode to cheerleading under the inspiring leadership of director Kelli Finglass (since 1991!). Fortunately, we learn how to have bad news conversations. Who wouldn't want that?
