Blue Lights plot

'Blue Lights' tells the story of three police officers in training in Northern Ireland. They are assigned to Blackthorn Station in Belfast, a city where being a community police officer comes with a lot of pressure and a unique set of dangers. One of the new agents, Grace Ellis, is a mother in her 40s. She gave up her job as a social worker to join the police force, but after only a few weeks she wonders if she made the right decision. The other newcomers, Annie Conlon and Tommy Foster, also struggle with the immense pressure of the track.

Excellent second series of this intense British police series, about a team of newcomers who find themselves in trouble in Belfast. Great characters, compelling plot lines and just the right combination of tension and drama. I would like porridge from this. Good to hear that seasons three and four have now been given the green (blue?) light.

The British police drama Blue Lights was developed, written and directed by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson. Both previously worked together on The Salisbury Poisonings and The Undeclared War. This second season is a strong and uncompromising follow-up to the excellent first season. The personal developments of the young officers play a major role in the lively scenario. Including their love life. It makes Blue Lights an exciting and empathetic drama, comparable to series such as Kin and Line of Duty. Filmed soberly, with little background music (except from the car radio) and authentic. In dreary Belfast, the convincing and layered characters shine like never before.
