Atypical plot

Sam Gardner, an 18-year-old autist, goes in search of himself and love. It will be a painful but wonderful journey that also turns the life of his family upside down. Each and every one of them is forced to change. Sam is a friendly young man who is interested in penguins, hates noisy environments and takes online dating advice quite literally. The central question in this 'coming of age' series: what does it really mean to be normal?

I watched the last season in one sitting last night. Wonderful series. Although it is still based on existing clichés regarding autism (I use this as an umbrella term since Asperger etc no longer exists), I still think it is one of the better representations. A lot can still be done to get those prejudices about autism out of society. (Although many psychologists are not yet sure what it is exactly.) Not all of us have just one fascination that we indulge in. We are not all great talents in a defined area. We're not all as serious as Sam. "We're like humans." There are many degrees of autism within autism. I think the great thing about this season is that different characters are made clear that they have traits. But do they all have autism? It's just a wonderful series that tells about daily worries and that happens in this family.

Unfortunately my expectations were met.

While seasons 1 and 2 were brilliant, refreshingly things start to go awry in this 3rd season.

It gets too pubescent (so whoops if you're not an adolescent), too corny, they start repeating themselves and they're looking too far.

I still think it's funny and it's also light and positive so I'm definitely going to watch the 4th season too, but it's good that they stopped it then.
