Sam Heughan reckons he'd be a great James Bond.
After Pierce Brosnan confirmed his retirement from the role of 007, the casting rumour mill naturally went into overdrive, as Bond producers searched for their next Bond who would star in the Casino Royale reboot.
Several high-profile actors auditioned for the role like Heughan, Cillian Murphy and Henry Cavill, but it was ultimately Daniel Craig who was cast, and he would go on to lead the most successful commercial period in the history of the franchise before his final movie, No Time to Die.
Heughan was up for Bond, too, though he believes he probably "wasn't ready" for Casino Royale.
"It was quite an experience. It was a stage in my life where I probably wasn't ready for it, but I wonder what would have happened if I had got it," he said.
"Look, every British actor certainly has been talked about for the role. I would love to see a Scottish Bond. Maybe I'm too old now. I know that they've been talking about making him younger. I feel like that's where they're gonna go, but who knows what's in their mind."
In a new interview, though, he promoted himself for the role again, telling The Telegraph:
“I’ll throw my hat in the ring. I’d be a brilliant Bond, I’m good at action and I’d bring a lot of emotional intelligence.”
Who will be the next James Bond?
Now that Craig has moved on from the role of Bond, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are on the lookout for their next 007.
They have recently claimed that they are still a couple of years away from the casting process, however.
According to OddsChecker, the favourites to be the next Bond are Aaron Taylor-Johnson Rege-Jean Page, Henry Cavill, James Norton, Damson Idris, Dan Stevens, Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Aidan Turner and Callum Turner.
