For The Avengers in 2012, Ruffalo was cast as Bruce Banner/Hulk, with the character previously being portrayed in movies by Eric Bana and Edward Norton.

Hulk played a major part in the Infinity War saga, though he and Hawkeye are the only two of the original Avengers yet to receive their own movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Due to the costs of CGI in 2024, there is no way that Marvel would sanction a full-length movie dedicated to Hulk.

"I'd love to do a standalone Hulk, I just don't think that's ever going to happen," Ruffalo told GQ. "It's very expensive if you did a whole movie, which is why they use the Hulk so sparingly. I priced myself out!"

Ruffalo has been told a Hulk movie won't happen

The actor previously revealed that he was informed by Marvel executive Kevin Feige that Hulk would not get a standalone film.

"Kevin (asked me) 'What would you like to do?' He said, 'What would you do if you had a standalone Hulk movie?'" the actor said at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

"And I said, 'Well, I'd like to take him from this raging maniac to kind of this integrated character.' And he said, 'Okay, we'll do that over the course of four movies. We'll never give you a standalone Hulk, let's just get that – I don't mean to burst your bubble… but that's not happening.

"So, we'll do it over four movies, how's that sound?'" 

Hulk did indeed go through some characterisation in the MCU, as he ended up as the polarising 'Smart-Hulk'.
