The upcoming Kick-Ass reboot will feature completely new characters including a new version of the title character.
Two Kick-Ass movies, starring Aaron-Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Moretz, were produced in 2010 and 2013 and told the story of a mild-mannered high school student, Dave Lizewski, who becomes a masked vigilante despite having no superpowers.
The first movie received positive reviews from critics, while the response to the second was slightly more mixed.
A decade after the last Kick-Ass movie, plans are in place for Part III, but we won't see Dave or Hit-Girl or Red Mist return just yet.
"Kick-Ass changed people's perception of what a superhero film is. We're doing it again," director Matthew Vaughn said at New York Comic Con.
"None of the other characters from the other Kick-Ass are in it, though we'd like to have them back after the reboot. I can't really talk about it, but it's fun!"
Lizewski is likely set to be sidelined in favour of a new character from the Mark Millar comic - Patience Lee.
Lee is an army veteran and single mother who, like Dave, decides to become a vigilante to clean up the streets and take on criminals. One key difference between Patience and Dave is that the former actually has some combat experience.
"The big difference is that she's immensely capable," Millar told Entertainment Weekly in 2018.
"Their personalities are just completely different, and being in her 30s and a mother gives the whole thing a completely different edge too. This is a military vet as opposed to a bored schoolboy."
Though the first appearance on-screen of Patience Lee hasn't been confirmed yet, it would make sense for Vaughn to follow the narrative already published in the comic by Millar.
