Hayley Atwell has spoken of her frustration at working on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
For over a decade, the British actress has played Agent Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Captain America: The First Avenger.
In Doctor Strange 2, she makes a cameo appearance as another multiverse version of Captain Carter and finds herself up against the rampaging Scarlett Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen.
To Atwell's annoyance, Peggy is dispatched within a few moments by Scarlett Witch.
"I’m like, ‘That wasn’t my choice!'" she said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
"When she was like, ‘I could do this all day’ and then followed by she’s immediately cut in half by a frisbee. And the audience being like, ‘She can’t do it all day. Apparently you can’t, so, egg on your face.’ That doesn’t really serve Peggy very well."
Atwell much preferred her role in Marvel's What If? series which focused on Peggy becoming Captain Carter, a version of Captain America.
"I felt like I had much more to do in the ‘What If...?’ animation series," she continued.
"I mean, any actor will tell you, to be able to go into a booth in effectively your pyjamas and do an animation is great fun because you’re focused on the voice as the instrument and your main performative tool ... , it felt like a frustrating moment in ‘Strange'. "
Atwell is currently promoting Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. You can read MovieMeter's review of Tom Cruise's action epic here.
