Glenn Howerton says he would gladly take a call from Marvel regarding a potential casting in Fantastic Four as Reed Richards.

Now that the Fantastic Four are set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the casting rumour mill has went into overdrive, particularly with regards to who will play Mr Fantastic.

John Krasinski made a cameo as Richards in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but it is unclear at this point whether he will return for the role or whether it was a one-time gig. Numerous actors have been linked with Richards, including Howerton, Adam Driver, Timothee Chalamet, Penn Badgley, Andrew Lincoln, Diego Luna and Tom Ellis.

Howerton's link comes from the fact that Fantastic Four's director Matt Shakman has previously worked with the actor on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

"Somehow, in my mind, there’s no chance that anything that I will ever do will be watched by people, and I don’t know what that is, I think it’s this sort of perpetual underdog thing that I feel, which makes no sense," he told The Movie Dweeb.

"But, no, look, it would be super fun, and obviously, the director, Matt Shakman, is a very close friend and an absolutely incredible director, so it’d be super fun to work with him again. But ain't nobody called me about that yet, but I would accept that phone call."

Glenn Howerton nearly played Starlord in Guardians of the Galaxy

When The Guardians of the Galaxy was casting for the first movie a decade ago, Chris Pratt eventually won the role of Peter Quill / Starlord. However, it emerged that Howerton was actually second choice for director James Gunn.

"I would never share who auditioned & didn’t get the role unless they shared it first – many people know Glenn Howerton auditioned & was my 2nd choice for the role," Gunn wrote on his Instagram stories.

Howerton has previously revealed that he passed Pratt on his way to the audition and immediately felt the other actor was perfect for the role. The Always Sunny star says he is unsure as to how he would deal with the level of fame that would come with starring in a Marvel movie, however.

“I think it’d be super fun, but it’s also terrifying to me, because the level of celebrity that then gets foisted upon you when you do a movie like that is something that scares the shit out of me," he admitted to The Guardian.
