Fans have long been clamouring for a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, and the latest news surrounding star Tom Cruise suggests it will happen in the near future,
The official premise of Edge of Tomorrow:
'After the alien forces launch an attack on Earth and threaten to wipe out the human race, Captain Cage, who is trapped in a time loop, teams up with a warrior to save the planet.'
It starred Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson, Noah Taylor, Jonas Armstrong, Tony Way, Kick Gurry, Charlotte Riley and Franz Drameh.
This week, it was announced that Cruise had struck a new partnership with Warner Bros. that would see him team with the studio to create new theatrical movies as well as further franchise movies.
Cruise previously worked with Warner Bros. on Edge of Tomorrow, Rock of Ages, The Last Samurai, Eyes Wide Shut, Interview with the Vampire, Risky Business, The Outsiders, and Magnolia so Edge of Tomorrow would certainly be the prime candidate for a second movie from that list.
Insiders have confirmed that Cruise will still work with other studios, which means the Mission: Impossible franchise won't be impacted.
Emily Blunt desperate to make Edge of Tomorrow 2
Blunt played Sergeant Rita Vrataski who helped to train Cruise's Major William Cage for combat.
It has now been 10 years since Edge of Tomorrow was released, and in that time Cruise has been busy taking the Mission: Impossible series into the stratosphere. Blunt wants him to take a break from Mission: Impossible to get an Edge of Tomorrow sequel on the go.
"There was one (script) that director Doug (Liman) kind of slithered over to me. I mean, I would love to make it a reality but I just don’t know when or how," she previously said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
“And how many 'Mission Impossibles' does he need? Come back to the side where… wasn’t he brilliant as a cowardly hero? Incredible.”
Blunt stated that she is "so ready" to make the movie and that she herself wasn't the "impediment" stopping it from happening.
