Stephen Dorff is no stranger to taking digs at Marvel and superhero movies, despite starring in one of the most famous comic book adaptations of the 1990s.
In 1998, the actor played Deacon Frost, the primary antagonist in Blade, starring Wesley Snipes. The movie is credited with helping to kickstart a successful run of Marvel movies, even if it took a few years for the MCU to establish itself.
A couple of years ago, Dorff said he was "embarrassed" for Scarlett Johansson with regards to how poor, in his opinion, the Black Widow movie looked.
He has some more comments, describing Marvel movies as mostly "garbage".
Dorff previously told Variety he would only star in modern comic book movies if they “were more like when I started when we made Blade, or the few that have been decent over the years, like when Nolan did The Dark Knight and the reinvented Batman from Tim Burton.
“All this other garbage is just embarrassing, you know what I mean. I mean, God bless them, they’re making a bunch of money, but their movies suck . And nobody’s going to remember them.
"Nobody’s remembering Black Adam at the end of the day. I didn’t even see that movie, it looked so bad.”
Dorff takes aim at Blade reboot
Dorff then turned his criticism towards the upcoming Blade reboot, which will star his True Detective partner Mahershala Ali.
“Marvel is used to me trashing them anyway,” he continued.
“How’s that PG Blade movie going for you, that can’t get a director? Because anybody who goes there is going to be laughed at by everyone, because we already did it and made it the best. There’s no Steve Norrington out there.”
Dorff was alluding to the fact that the new Blade has been delayed several times and that the original director Bassam Tariq left the project late last year.
He has since been replaced by Yann Demange.
