Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed that she and Charlize Theron are yet to speak with each other after the former took over the role of Furiosa from the latter.
In 2015, Theron portrayed Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, which received rave reviews from critics, with her performance highlighted for particular praise.
A prequel was soon announced that would focus on that character, though it was later confirmed that Theron would not be returning. Furiosa will tell the story of how the character made her way into the clutches of the villain of the first movie, Immortan Joe.
Though there is certainly no bad blood between Taylor-Joy and Theron, the Split and Last Night in Soho actress says they haven't spoken about sharing the role.
"Charlize was sweet enough — I think both of us ended up in a situation where we were both so respectful of each other that we didn't want to reach out prior ," Taylor-Joy told People Magazine.
"The second it was over, once this press tour is over, we're having dinner, and we're going to swap war stories for sure. It is an entirely unique situation and I only finished it 13 days ago and was then thrown into this circus, so I think it's going to take me a second to understand what's going on.
"But I feel really grateful to be here, and I feel so grateful that I got to work with the unbelievable creatives that man Furiosa. The Mad Max world is entirely unique and epic at a scale that I can't even ."
Theron disappointed not be returning as Furiosa
Oscar-winning actress Theron has previously expressed her disappointment at not being asked to return to play Furiosa again.
"It’s a tough one to swallow," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
"Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making Fury Road with him. He’s a master, and I wish him nothing but the best. Yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her.
"She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner. We get so hung up on the smaller details that we forget the thing that we emotionally tap into has nothing to do with that minute thing that we’re focusing on."
George Miller's Furiosa will also star Chris Hemsworth and is set for a 2024 release.
