Ant-Man v Kang the Conqueror is a mismatch, says Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd has revealed that that Ant-Man faces the biggest foe of his life in the form of Kang the Conqueror.

Jonathan Majors plays Kang, who will be the primary villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

And, he will likely be the next 'Big Bad' in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Indeed, one of the upcoming movies in the MCU is titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Quantumania will be used to establish Kang's power and dominance, and that is probably bad news for our hero, Scott Laing, played again by Paul Rudd.

"He’s a formidable foe – the understatement of the century," the actor told.Total Film.

"Scott’s never faced anybody like this. He’s Kang the Conqueror! Thanos is obviously the closest but, yeah, he doesn’t have any of the other gang with him. How do you go about stopping somebody like that? It’s not easy. Whether or not Scott is even successful people will see… but I think that hopefully the emotion, and wanting to do what he’s trying to do, makes sense to an audience. Hopefully they’ll be rooting for me."

Majors as Kang the Conqueror

Majors has revealed a few details that attracted him to the role of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU.

Now that Thanos has been dispatched of, the MCU has been looking out for the next major villain to take on the Avengers in the next ensemble movie which will bring a variety of Marvel heroes together.

The actor says the "dimensions" of Kang attracted him to the role.

When asked by Variety if he and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty director Destin Daniel Cretton had spoken about that project, he responded:

"We just had a few chats. We spoke a very long time, and he's an open mind, he's an open heart, and he's grounded.

"He and the work that he does is grounded, and I think that's the most important part about it, that we're dealing with myths, you know? What is a Kang? What is a movie? What is an MCU movie, you know? What does that mean? What does that look like?

"Those are the questions we're asking, but all of that works when it's grounded and really, really tucked into the given circumstances of what's going on between these people, and what we can illuminate for ourselves as a species.

"It was the character and dimensions of Kang (that attracted him to the role). And the potential that it had.

"I thought, 'I’ll take a chance on that.'"

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released on 17 February 2023.
