"Heroes don't get any bigger."

Dr. Hank Pym has developed a substance that allows him to greatly reduce matter and at the same time give it much more strength. He processes this in a special suit and the military potential quickly becomes apparent. Pym, however, does not want to hear about it, but is sidelined by his assistant Darren Cross. Pym must enlist the help of the dorky burglar Scott Lang to use the spectacular Ant-man suit to thwart Cross's sinister plans.

“Sorry I'm late, I was saving the world. You know how it is.”

Ant-Man has become a wonderful Marvel film about an unusual superhero who, after a rough and defensive start, still puts on his tight Ant-Man suit and embraces his superhero status. A light-hearted Marvel film that feels fresh and fortunately doesn't take itself too seriously.

Paul Rudd is an odd choice as a superhero, but he's perfect as Scott Lang, a man who wants to make amends for his daughter but keeps falling into old mistakes. If he likes Dr. Hank Pym (a great Michael Douglas) gets the chance to be Ant-Man, after a hesitant start, he grabs it with both hands. Ant-Man is by concept, shrinking but at the same time increasing in strength, no standard superhero and especially in the action scenes that becomes clear. These action scenes are very original and are delivered with flair, suspense and humor. This is especially apparent in the last fight around the trains of Scott's daughter. Rudd, Douglas and Evangeline Lilly (who plays Hank Pym's daughter Hope van Dyne) make a strong trio and provide some highlights in the film. It is playful, humorous but also serious when necessary. Michael Pena, David Dastmalchian and TI, as Scott's friends, have to provide the comic relief and Pena especially succeeds in this. Corey Stoll I thought as a bad guy a weak link and didn't impress me. He had no charisma and no threat at all. A missed opportunity. Ant-Man is humorous, visually overwhelming and action-packed. But the strong script and actors ensure that Ant-Man never goes out of control and, despite the story around a shrinking superhero and ants, remains grounded. A great achievement.

So here's how it's done, bunglers who manufactured the steaming turds, chock-full of no fun, called Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool! This is how you make a Marvel movie with a wink. Not with rude macho humor or forced hip references or retro music, but with a nice story with an anti-hero. One that is simply coldly ignored by the beautiful lady instead of another romance being forced (Lilly). And actually not much can be done besides breaking in, but you can just use a super handy suit! Furthermore, a nice gimmick with the Latino buddy who has a special way of retelling. Seen twice and thoroughly enjoyed it twice! Only downside is maybe the mediocre villain?

Keep watching until the end (is with every Marvel movie but it's worth it here too). I can already look forward to a sequel in which Evangeline Lilly gets more to do, as the Wasp if I'm not mistaken!

Nice Marvel film that convinced me mainly because of the strong but not so obvious casting and the effective effects.

First of all, Paul Rudd, does a very good job as Ant-man and knows how to give both the creation and the film the necessary and usually successful humor. Then there is Michael Douglas, for me the strongest role of all, the whole movie really lifts to a higher plan.

The rest of the cast is also good with the exception of Corey Stoll who I found a bit disappointing as a villain and Michael Peña as the supposedly funny Latino didn't have to be for me either.

The story is, as is usually the case in such superhero films, quite standard, but (partly due to the small scale in terms of locations and drama scenes) was still quite sympathetic.

Furthermore, a solid direction by Peyton Reed that considerably boosts its market value and finally the superior effects with the ants.

All ingredients that make Ant-man a successful, good and fun superhero film.
