The Vanishing American plot
America during the First World War. Nophaie is a strong and fair Native American of the Navajo tribe. He has come into conflict with the evil Indian agent Booker because he has tried to attract the attention of the white schoolteacher Marion Warner, whom he is in love with. Nophaie flees into the mountains to escape Booker's revenge. He returns only to convince his fellow tribesmen to hand over their horses to Captain Earl Ramsdale, an army procurer who needs the horses for the war. Nophaie then manages to save Earl's life during battle, but has to realize that he too is in love with Marion.
