The Rainbow Trail plot
John Shefford tries to pinpoint the exact location of a gold-filled valley, where a group of travelers once stranded to hide from the bandit King Dyer. He arrives in a place where Dyer still resides. Shefford meets Fay Larkin, but what he doesn't know is that she was part of the group of travelers from fifteen years ago. Larkin is used by Dyer to please his men. Shefford tells her of his plans, but she asks him to leave the area because she fears Shefford will endanger the lives of her adoptive parents.
